Started the first semester of my Masters degree...a little overwhelmed but excited nonetheless. I'm hoping, if the stars (read=classes) align correctly I can graduate in the Fall of 2012.

Underestimated the ~~hypebeasts~~ sneaker heads in Waco.

When the Bordeauxs released I got to the mall at 8am and it was damn near dead (aside from the early morning walkers, there was one other guy there buying shoes)... Not the case today!

Showed up at 8 to this:

not a large crowd roughly 35-40 but as you can tell from the picture, there is no structure to this crowd. So when the doors were opened (30 minutes late, might I add) it was madness! Dudes literally sprinted to the various stores, one of which was actually opening early.

As I'm walking to the store, I here this commotion behind me. The security guard had evidently said something "out of line" because somebody's MOM was in his face screaming saying, "I know you not talking about my child? I'll fuck you up, you better watch your mouth!" hahaha I just kept it moving.

Finally made it the store and had to wait about 30 minutes. Some, not wanting to wait in line, paid extra at stores that weren't open (One guy was saying he paid $250, dummy!) while a handful, myself included, waited at Champs. I ended up buying the last pair of 12's they had! Oh and that guy that paid $250 for his pair? Well he wore a size 12, and was in line before I was...glad he didn't stay in line!

On any other Saturday, even when I had class at 9, I would be able to sleep until 8:30 easily! But the last 2 Jordan release Saturdays, the Bordeauxs last month and the Wolf Grey 5's today, I've popped up at 6:30. What's the cause? Not quite sure.

Anyway, I'm up showered and all ready to get to ~~the money~~ breakfast with the wifey...then to the J's!

I don't usually get into basketball until the playoffs and even then I don't root for any particular team. However, Amar'e has been my favorite player for some time and while I am not a Knick fan by any means I can see myself rooting for them...

8 weeks ago I got my ears gauged because I've always wanted some black studs AND I was tired of wearing cz's. Started with 14mm and went in tonight and got them tapered to a 12. Not a big jump but I'm taking the slow and steady route so I don't do irreversible damage to my ears.

After taking a few days off, I resumed my push-up regimen today. The conversation of my campaign came up last night at my father-in-laws birthday dinner ( Happy birthday Barry if you're reading this!) where I was telling he and DJ that I try to put together a strategy before starting instead of just trying to pump out as many as I can. That's when I was introduced to the "walking pushup" (explained here). So I gave it a try. First two times were a breeze; 2nd two the burn starting to kick in; 5th and 6th brought a more intense burn; After the 7th and 8th time my arms were numb. I was seriously thinking that I wouldn't be able to lift my arms after I finished the 8th set;...After the 9th, I lost the desire to ever do push-ups again.

10+9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1= 55

55 x 9 = 495!!

Admittingly, I slept on Cole a little bit (According to my iTunes, I added J.Cole's "The Warm Up" on January 25, 2010). Nevertheless, I've been one of the biggest proponents of Cole since then and have been enamored with his music and rise to the top. His much anticipated "~~Cole World~~ Friday Night Lights" mixtape dropped last night and although I'm just now spinning it for the first time I'm hyped about what is in store. Update: Ok...the second track just started: soul beat, Erykah Badu sample...COLE!!!

Managed to get my hands on Cee-Lo Green's new album "The Lady Killer" and I'm already on my ~~second~~ third listen of the morning. Cee-Lo is definitely an underrated talent that rarely disappoints with his music (see Cee-Lo Green...is the Soul Machine and Cee-Lo Green and his Perfect Imperfections; not to mention Gnarls Barkley!)

"Please", "Bodies" and "Fool For You" are my favorites!... Definitely a must cop for the music lover.

If you frequent the BBC/Ice Cream website, you would've saw Shae's attempt at 1000 pushups in 45 minutes after hearing of Herschel Walker's insane workout.

As I continued to read, I began to wonder exactly how many push ups I could do in 45 minutes.

1st attempt (Monday): I started strong but fatigue quickly set in. Had to take two- 5 minute breaks and struggled to finish. Ended with 198...Terrible!!

2nd attempt (Today): Did a little better than the first attempt. Ended with 231...+ 33.

Morale of the story is...I got a looong way to go!!

Are My Tattos Ok?

One of the first questions I get asked about in New Hire Orientation pertains to Goodwill's policy on tattoos.

Goodwill's policy states that as long as the tattoo in question is non-offensive, does not contain profanity and is not gang-related then it is permissible.

I personally think, employers have to approach the issue concerning tattoos with an open mind in order to provide a work environment that welcomes employees. The competition to attract and retain skilled workers has resulted in corporate cultures that strive to demonstrate the value placed on individual and group contributions. There is increasing attention paid to offering a company culture and benefit package that supports a variety of lifestyles. Should someone with a visible tattoo be treated any differently?

Personally, I think it depends on the employer's industry and the type of job.

For example, the odds are that a four-star hotel may not want the concierge to have large tattoos of skulls and crossbones on the back of each hand. But the same hotel may have less concern if a dishwasher in the kitchen has those same tattoos because direct contact with the hotel's customers is minimal.

The key for employers is to have a written policy that employees are required to read and sign, and then to enforce that policy consistently. That way, employees are not able to claim that the policy was applied differently to them. The policies should be based on sound judgment that is in the best interest of the business. That means that employee and customer interests also need to be considered before the policy is drafted.

At Goodwill, all employees are notified of the policy on tattoos and are then required to sign a form, which goes into their employee file, that states they understand and will abide by the rules. I love that our organization understands that good employees come in all shapes, shades and sizes…and some come with ink!

My time as an Austinite is coming to an end.

I'm moving back to Waco at the end of the month and I have to say it is definitely bittersweet. I've made some good friends, worked for a good organization and lived it up in the great city of Austin; but this past year not living with my wife was unbearable. We're doing the right thing for us! Not stressing the change too much though. I know this stint in Waco, however long it may be, is one step closer to me accomplishing great things. Plus, my mom, nieces, nephews and in-laws are there as well as so it'll be good being close to them.

But I digress, I plan on getting a lot of Austin in the next week! My Tumblr will ~~probably~~ be a better source of keeping up with me until I get situated..

A few days ago I downloaded L.E.$ The Beautiful Struggle but never got around to listening to it.

If you don't know L.E.$, he's a member of DJMrRogers' DSF crew as well as the newest member of Slim Thug's BHO imprint. ~~I'm currently on track 12 of 23 and I haven't been disappointed yet!~~ ..finished the whole thing! Definitely the hottest mixtape of the summer, and maybe even the year! That's a bold statement I know but trust me on this!!

Look at what came in the mail...~~a scale and some arm & hammer!~~

So the watch pictured above was bought this past Saturday for $130. While I was overcome with the utmost joy, DJ ~~hip'd~~ told where I can get it for half that...so I took it back.

Now I've wanted this watch for a long time but couldn't bring myself around to buying it. I even had a chance to cop it back on my Anniversary, but went with the retro Jordan 2's instead.

So as soon as I took it back, I hopped online on the iPhone [aka the greatest phone ever] and ordered it for literally half of what I had just paid. I was excited to have saved the money but pissed that I had to wait nearly a week to get it...good thing this week has flown by...

I'm happy!

Taqueria #9 is no exception to that rule! Mismatch plates, misspelled words on the menu and awkward waitress couldn't diminish the fact the the food was good!

I officially ran out of my supply this morning but I'm still in excruiating pain! Got a follow up appointment today at 3:15 so I can get reevaluated and [hopefully] get some more pain meds...I'd rather not be in pain though.

Saturday didn't go as planned. I was amp'd to go the Nice Kicks grand opening but woke up Saturday morning with my ear feeling like it had been hit with a sledgehammer. So I didn't get there early like I'd planned, in fact I got there an hour and a half after the official opening. Got there and there was a line, probably 100 deep, in which I was at the back of. Did I want to see the new store?...yes. Did I want to wait an hour to see it? NAH!

So, while waiting for the line to dwindle, the crew and I [JoJo, DJ and Vanessa, whom I have affectionately and official dubbed "The League of Nations"] hit Buffalo Exchange and then Terra Burger for organic nourishment!

Finally made it back to the store and to be honest I was thoroughly disappointed. First of all, I was expecting it to be a "block party" type of event not a "let-a-few-folks-in-at-a-time" store opening. Secondly, I was extememly surprised at how under-developed the store was. There was a wall with about 20 kicks on, a rack with t-shirts on it and a DJ in the corner...that's it!

Later that night we hit up Oasis for drinks with some friends. I'd never been to this place but have heard people talk about the view; it definitely lived up to the hype!

Levi's x Goodwill: A Dope collabo!

Levi's is teaming up with Goodwill to help people be more conscious of the impact they have on the environment. The eco-friendly initiative will encourage people to donate their unwanted clothes to Goodwills, instead of landfills, across America. Goodwill will then use the revenue generated from the sale of the donated clothes to fund programs that help people find jobs.

As an employee of Goodwill, and a consumer of Levi's products, I think this is an awesome collaboration. Not only does this help us get our mission out, but it also help preserve the environment, one of the values of our organization. It also shows Levi's continued commitment to the environment and their desire to educate.

Starting 2010, Levi's will begin producing items with a new care tag with tips on how to reduce individual impact on the planet.

Sorry for the lack of activity lately but...

I thought I was going to die last night!

For the past couple of days I've been having "flu-like symptoms" and I just knew it was going to turn into the flu. So I went in to see the d-o-c and they gave me both flu shots [THEIR mistake] and by the time I got back home I was shivering and shaking like a crackhead going through withdrawals [no exaggeration]. The wife drove in from Waco to take care of me and we she got here I was in some sweats, a hoodie, a wool skull cap and I was wrapped up in a blanket...and I was still freezing! It hurt to breathe and hurt even worst to move; I definitely had never been that sick so I was freaking the fuck out! So the wifey has been pumping me with OTC meds, soup and OJ for the past 24hrs; I haven't made a full recovery but I'm definitely in better shape than yesterday.

Just got back for my weekend in the NO and even though I had a great time, driving 12 hrs today has me dog tired! With work in 6 hours as well as classes starting tomorrow, pics from the trip might take a while to be posted but I'll try hard to get em up quick, fast and in a hurry.

N'awlins for the weekend!

Not looking forward to the 9-hr drive, but I am excited about being in New Orleans the same weekend as a Saints playoff game. The energy should be craaazy!
