Levi's x Goodwill: A Dope collabo!

Levi's is teaming up with Goodwill to help people be more conscious of the impact they have on the environment.  The eco-friendly initiative will encourage people to donate their unwanted clothes to Goodwills, instead of landfills, across America.  Goodwill will then use the revenue generated from the sale of the donated clothes to fund programs that help people find jobs.

As an employee of Goodwill, and a consumer of Levi's products, I think this is an awesome collaboration.  Not only does this help us get our mission out, but it also help preserve the environment, one of the values of our organization.  It also shows Levi's continued commitment to the environment and their desire to educate.

Starting 2010, Levi's will begin producing items with a new care tag with tips on how to reduce individual impact on the planet.

Here's a sample of one of the new care labels:

I got my drank and my 2-step!!

Tonight is the night of our company Holiday Party, which is kinda like a big deal.  It's been 4 months since we started planning this thing and it's finally here.  The process has definitely been a stressful one but the final product should will be flawless.  Now, I just completed my first year here but somehow I ended up being "elected" chairman of the planning commitee [brushes the last bit of dirt off] so I had to make sure to set it off right!  We have over $3000 worth of prizes including 2 HDTV's [one of which I'm trying to go home with!] plus a dope DJ [No Rapid Ric], casino games, drinks and free food!  I'm getting ready to head over the hotel now to make sure eveything is a go.  Since I'm Mc'ing I probably won't be snapping many, if any, pics but I'll try to sneak in a few just for the blog.

Peace.

Work

A couple months ago I became a member of the newly formed Goodwill Social Media team. Here's a recent blog I wrote for Thanksgiving:...

"It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you "Be of good cheer"
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!"

I love this time of the year! The chilly weather, an opportunity to spend time with family, friends and eat some great food!!

Yesterday we had our company potluck luncheon and there was definitely some great food! It was really nice to see everyone be able to take a break from all the hardwork and just enjoy each others company.

I can't wait to spend time with my own family and enjoy [more] great food.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Opportunity

Before I headed to work I stopped by the barbershop to get cleaned up for the weekend. While I was waiting for Mike [my barber] to show up I met this dude JC. He asked me if I could spare a few dollars because he was hungry. He proceeds to tell me that he had just gotten out of prison and that he's been putting applications in all over Austin but no one will give him an opportunity. I told him I didn't have any cash on me [honest truth I only had enough for my haircut] but that I could help him get a job. I told him that I work for Goodwill and let him know that we specialize in helping people with barriers to employment [i.e. criminal background] find jobs. I told him we should be able to help him.

MAAAAAAAAAN, the expression and excitement on his face after I told him that was unlike anything I had ever seen before! "Yea! That way I can support myself and not have to ask people for money! Man, I really appreciate you!" I said no problem glad I could help and we went our seperate ways.

Afterward I was overcome with the joy of knowing I have a job that has meaning and can truly change peoples lives.

Hall of Honor

Last night at work we had the annual Hall of Honor event. It spotlights those that Goodwill has helped and are now doing exceptionally well for themselves. I volunteered my services behind the bar for the evening. It was real cool. Some really extraordinary people were honored. One person in particular had been homeless not to long ago and is now a top supervisor in Goodwill's Contract Services division. It really put my life in perspective to see people that literally had nothing come up and are thriving. It really made me proud to be apart of a company that truly helps others.

Enjoy...
